En 2020, comencé a revisar mi formación artística ya que ahora trabajaba 100% de forma remota. Es muy emocionante estar con mi esposa, mis dos hijas y mis tres perros todo el día. El tiempo extra sin desplazamientos me permitió volver a interesarme por las actividades artísticas.
En 2023 me incorporé a Dittopatterns como Responsable de Tecnologías de la Información. Esto me llevó a la industria de la confección y decidí empezar a tejer. He aplicado mis talentos artísticos y mi herencia escocesa a la producción de lana, prendas y accesorios de punto de Shetland.
Nacida y criada en el Noreste de Estados Unidos, crecí teniendo prendas hechas a mano por mi abuela. Al principio ella me enseñó a tejer, aunque en ese momento no me interesaba mucho. Siempre tuve una formación artística, dibujo y pintura. Entré en mi carrera en la industria de la tecnología de la información y mi pasión por los esfuerzos artísticos quedó en suspenso.
Our roots reach back to my grandparents, who kept sheep, and forward through our oldest daughter’s involvement in 4‑H. With that lineage in mind, we welcomed Shetland sheep into our family, alongside two children and three Labradors. Scottish heritage has always shaped our sensibilities, yet sourcing authentic Scottish yarns locally proved nearly impossible. Rather than compromise, we chose to build something of our own.
Today, Brae & Heather is a family‑run house devoted to our Scottish heritage and a deep love of craft in all its forms. Alongside our own line of knitting supplies including yarns, tools, and patterns, we offer thoughtfully handcrafted goods and a curated selection from Scotland that reflects our Douglas heritage. Operating online, with the hope of one day opening a brick‑and‑mortar shop, we bring a considered expression of Scotland to the greater Nashville area and beyond, honoring tradition while creating and selecting objects meant to be used, cherished, and passed on.
