En 2020, j’ai commencé à revisiter mon parcours artistique puisque je travaillais désormais à 100% à distance. C'est très excitant d'être avec ma femme, mes deux filles et mes trois chiens toute la journée. Le temps supplémentaire sans déplacements m'a permis de me réintéresser aux activités artistiques.
En 2023, j'ai rejoint Dittopaterns en tant que responsable des technologies de l'information. Cela m’a lancé dans l’industrie du vêtement et j’ai décidé de me lancer dans le tricot. J'ai appliqué mes talents artistiques et mon héritage écossais à la production de laine, de vêtements et d'accessoires en tricot Shetland.
Née et élevée dans le nord-est des États-Unis, j'ai grandi avec les vêtements faits à la main de ma grand-mère. Au début, elle m'a appris à tricoter, même si cela ne m'intéressait pas beaucoup à l'époque. J'ai toujours eu une formation artistique, dessin et peinture. J'ai commencé ma carrière dans l'industrie des technologies de l'information et ma passion pour les activités artistiques a été mise entre parenthèses.
Our roots reach back to my grandparents, who kept sheep, and forward through our oldest daughter’s involvement in 4‑H. With that lineage in mind, we welcomed Shetland sheep into our family, alongside two children and three Labradors. Scottish heritage has always shaped our sensibilities, yet sourcing authentic Scottish yarns locally proved nearly impossible. Rather than compromise, we chose to build something of our own.
Today, Brae & Heather is a family‑run house devoted to our Scottish heritage and a deep love of craft in all its forms. Alongside our own line of knitting supplies including yarns, tools, and patterns, we offer thoughtfully handcrafted goods and a curated selection from Scotland that reflects our Douglas heritage. Operating online, with the hope of one day opening a brick‑and‑mortar shop, we bring a considered expression of Scotland to the greater Nashville area and beyond, honoring tradition while creating and selecting objects meant to be used, cherished, and passed on.
